A History of Racing Success
Aston's glorious history of motor racing was reignited in the 21st Century when the company successfully re-entered the field. Inspired by the dream of the original Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin, Bamford Rose now offers a truly bespoke independent service that aims to replicate those early year successes.
About us: In the beginning
In 1913 Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin fitted a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine to the chassis of a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini racing car designed by Bugatti.
They named their car Aston Martin, after Lionel Martin and the Aston Clinton hill climb racing course, where the pair had already achieved racing success. Their first production car was completed in 1919, and the company’s joint preoccupation with production cars and racing success was established.
